Neal and Jack

Neal Cassady's father's barber shop- Curtis Park, Denver, Colorado.
Cassady grew up in the now demolished Snowden apartment house across the street. Kerouac was so impressed with Cassady's hometown he moved there himself for a spell in the late 1940's. It's not hard to imagine the two friends attending late night Charlie Parker jams at the Rossonian Club with a couple of hot gals then stopping off at the Colburn Hotel for night caps.

Stock Show Story

It was back in '38, Charlie had to make some serious choices in his life and choices meant consequences. Darla and Jean went at it like alley cats and all hell broke loose when the sheep busted out of their pen and wandered out into the forest.  What Charlie didn't know was that Chester was waiting for him out there, beyond the reach of the sheriff, beyond where anyone could here a scream- brothers, what do they know about blood? Plenty that afternoon.

Stack

Daylight, still freezing outside. The smokestack takes on a magic quality when I go out to walk the dogs in our alley. Two blocks away, directly up the alley is this old smokestack from a long abandoned power plant for Mapleton Rehabilitation Center which used to be a tuberculosis home. It catches the first morning light and holds onto the sunset a few minutes longer than anything else. Late at night and very early in the morning there is an owl who hoots from somewhere up by the smokestack, the steam coming from the current powerplant next door adds to the ambience- our neighborhood.

Winter Vision

Dreary, cold January day- Martha's Vineyard Ferry.
There's something about travel, being separated from one's normal routine, it really doesn't have to be a tropical paradise, just that removal, in that, one can obtain a clearer vision.
